James, chief executive of Vulcan Materials Co., which supplies sand and gravel for highway construction, received a compensation package in 2008 of nearly $4.5 million, down more than half from the previous year as the company eliminated its bonus because financial goals were not met, an analysis of a regulatory filing showed.

Vulcan records non cash charge for impairment of goodwill relating to Florida Rock cement segment

(Birmingham, Alabama) -- Vulcan Materials Company (NYSE: VMC), a producer of construction aggregates, disclosed yesterday (25 February) that as per the Financial Accounting Standard 142, a fourth quarter non cash charge for impairment of the full USD253m of goodwill allocated to its cement segment acquired in the Florida Rock Industries transaction in 2007, has been recorded.
