Heidelberg sets out ambitious sustainability targets for the next decade

(Germany) -- Heidelberg Cement has released its latest sustainability report that contains its ambitious sustainability targets for the next decade. The report also sets out the breakthroughs of the company in sustainability in the last one year and its ambitions for sustainability targets till 2020.
Among the sustainability targets set by the company are zero accidents, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and establishing a leading position in biodiversity in its quarries.
In addition, Heidelberg has also committed itself to improving use of sustainable construction techniques, using waste as a resource and minimising other environmental impacts over the next decade.
"We have achieved a lot and made considerable progress,” explained Heidelberg chairman of the managing board Dr Bernd Scheifele. "With our Sustainability Ambitions 2020, we have set ourselves ambitious goals on the path to greater sustainability
According to the sustainability report, Heidelberg exceeded its target to reduce CO2 emissions by 15% by 2010 in 2008 with an 18% reduction.
The company also claims to be the industry leader in alternative fuels with a proportion of 17.5%.
