Indonesia's Feb cement consumption down

Mar, 24 2009

(Los Angeles, California)  --  Data compiled by the Indonesian Cement Association Indonesia's domestic shows that cement consumption in Indonesia fell 4.5 percent in February to 2.86 million tonnes from a year ago.

The data also depicts that cement consumption in Southeast Asia's top economy dropped by 7.8 percent to 6.03 million tonnes in the January-February period.

The country's biggest cement producer, PT Semen Gresik Tbk, had also indicated earlier that it expected Indonesia's cement demand to fall this year due to the global economic crisis and a slowdown in Indonesia's economic growth.

However, the company recorded a 5.2 percent rise in total cement sales to 1.32 million tonnes in February, the data showed.

The Indonesian government expects economic growth to slow to 4.5 percent this year, from 6.1 percent in 2008.
