Holcim closes Westport cement works for three weeks

(Westport, New Zealand) -- Holcim plans to close its Westport cement works temporarily for a period of three weeks during the Christmas - New Year period. Holcim has taken this decision due to the rising stocks of cement around the country.
The Cape Foulwind plant will shut down for the first time in its 50 years of existence in Buller.
The temporary shut down will mean that the 100 odd employees of the plant will be forced to proceed on a compulsory three-week holiday.
The shutdown has elicited mixed feelings from the local population.
