Sourcing award for CEMEX UK

Nov, 18 2009

(UK) -- A buliding materials provider in Scarborough has become one of the first companies in the country to be certified in recognition of responsible sourcing.

The CEMEX readymix concrete site, in Barry’s Lane, has been certified according to the Responsible Sourcing of Con-struction Products BES6001.

This certification means that all ready mixed concrete supplied from the plant is responsibly sourced and independently verified, taking into account environmental, economic and social factors.

Ready mixed concrete is made from cement, sand, water and aggregates (stone and gravel) and in order to meet the standards each of these products were assessed in accordance to quality, organisational governance, supply chain management and environmental and social impact.

The certification also allows for traceability of the product from source to finished product to ensure all areas within the supply chain are operating to high standards.

CEMEX UK’s sustainability director Andy Spencer said: “We are delighted that our readymix operations now have been certified to this standard. This recognition should give our customers and clients confidence that our production and supply chains are operating ethically and responsibly.”

CEMEX UK, building materials provider, is amongst the first in the industry to meet these exacting standards which are set by the Building Research Establishment, and certification has been given to more than 230 sites across the country.
