5 killed, 6 injured in quarry blast

(Tamil Nadu, India) -- Five persons, including a woman, were killed and six others injured when gelatine sticks exploded accidentally at a stone quarry near here today, police said.

 

The five were fixing the gelatine sticks to blast rocks at the licenced quarry in Muddur, 25 km from here, when all of a sudden one of them slipped and fell down, accidentally triggering the fuse of the explosives, they.

 

The five were killed on the spot. The six others injured were rushed to Chengalpattu Medical College Hospital, police said, adding that it was a case of accident.

 

District Collector Santhosh K Misra has ordered an inquiry by revenue department into the blast.
