Construction worker is stabbed on the job

Nov, 26 2009

(Florida)  --  On this Thanksgiving, a construction worker is thankful to be alive after he is attacked and stabbed while working in Tallahassee on Wednesday.

A 46-year old construction worker kept working this Thanksgiving eve late into the afternoon. He was on the job by himself at this construction site on the 17-hundred block of Balkin Road... near Capital Circle Southwest.... when a man came up behind him and stabbed him with a knife on the left side of his neck. The worker managed to fight off his attacker who fled into the woods by the site.

Those same woods are shared by a residential area where Glen and Rosa Booker live and that has them on edge.

"Our trailer is just a few feet from the fence and it happened right over the fence," says Glen Booker.

The Bookers say they're concerned that the attacker has so far alluded the authorities even though the sheriff's office deployed k-9 units to find him.

"As I came up to my house, had I known this I probably would've approached my house a lot differently," says Rosa Booker.

Authorities are still looking for a black male in his late twenties, about 5 -8 to 6 feet tall, weighs about 160 pounds and has a small beard. He was wearing a black shirt and shorts and knit cap with red trim.
"There's a lot of things that happen during this season that don't normally happen and just be aware of your surroundings," warns Sergeant Rob Pace of the Leon County Sheriff's Office.

And that's what the Bookers say they plan on doing.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office says the construction worker was taken to the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They don't have a motive for the attack.
