Lafarge launches quarry simulator and blast experience pod

Apr, 12 2012

(UK) -- Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete has installed its Lafarge Pod - a mobile, interactive 360 degree experience room at the Mountsorrel Quarry so it can be used for open days next month.

Visitors to the granite quarry in Quorn, Leicestershire can watch the blasting process in all its glory on multi-surround screens.

The Pod, was launched at the recent Ecobuild exhibition in London, allows unparalleled access to normally 'off-limit' areas and practices, including production zones and quarry blasts.

Surrounded by images, sound and video, people will be able to experience exactly what happens at Lafarge's building materials manufacturing sites, watching the day to day work which normally would only be witnessed by trained employees wearing specialist safety gear.

Angus Shedden, manager at Mountsorrel Quarry, said: "The Pod is an amazing piece of kit. It truly allows the public to get up close and personal to the sights and sounds of quarry working without being anywhere near the rock face".

The tour takes four minutes, taking visitors through the entire production story of the company's vast portfolio of building materials, as well as giving 'up close and personal' access to previously restricted locations.
