Purdy Materials concrete truck kills worker
Apr, 13 2012
(SHADELAND, Indiana) -- Police say the construction worker killed when a concrete delivery truck tipped over into the pit for an in-ground swimming pool was a 55-year-old West Lafayette man.
The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department William Harrison was pronounced dead after emergency crews freed him Wednesday at a home in the community of Shadeland.
Homeowner Mike Adams tells the Journal & Courier of Lafayette that Harrison was among three men who were standing outside the truck and he saw the other two get out of the way.
Police say the concrete truck's driver wasn't hurt.
Emergency personnel investigating the accident say the man was killed by the concrete truck after it fell over into the pool the man was working in. According to Lt. Ron Faith of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department, a Purdy Materials concrete truck fell over into the in-ground pool as the worker prepared to fill it with concrete as the ground gave way.
