Driver pinned inside concrete truck
May, 23 2012
(California) -- A concrete truck overturned at 10:25 a.m. Monday on Manton Road, east of Lanes Valley Road, pinning the driver inside the vehicle.
The man was flown to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with minor injuries as a precaution, said California Highway Patrol Officer Phillip Mackintosh.
The truck did spill concrete, but that was contained to the area under the truck according to scanner reports.
According to the CHP website, there was a request for Caltrans to respond and shut down Highway 36E at Manton Road. At 1:26 p.m., the road was shut down to remove concrete.
The truck, which was carrying about eight cubic yards of concrete, was driving on Manton Road about 20-25 mph when for unknown reasons the driver allowed it to drift off the right shoulder where the weight of the truck and movement of the tank caused it to turn onto its side, Mackintosh said.
