Socialists target Illinois in Caterpillar strike

Jun, 07 2012

(Joliet, Illinois)  --  The socialists are coming. Actually, for readers that live in Illinois, the socialists are already here. We’re not talking about mere philosophical socialists either. This weekend, northern Illinois was ground zero in the battle between multinational corporations and organized labor. While both sides fought to a stalemate in last week’s contract vote, the Socialist Equality Party may be one of the few winners.

With organized labor taking a beating in last night’s Wisconsin recall election, the contract fight between Caterpillar Corp and its union employees carries even greater weight for the nation’s unions. And while the GOP has positioned itself as the American worker’s greatest threat, the Democratic Party and President Obama have all but stepped to the sideline, letting workers fend off Republican attacks alone. Stepping in to pick up the banner of labor was none other than the Socialist Equality Party.
