Lucky Cement supplies electricity to HESCO
Jul, 04 2012
(Pakistan) -- Lucky Cement, Pakistan’s largest cement producer, has started supplying excess electricity generated from its power generation plants to a domestic electricity distribution company, Hyderabad Electricity Supply Company Ltd.
As per the electricity supply agreement, Lucky Cement is selling 20MW/h of electricity to Hyderabad Electricity Supply Company Ltd (HESCO), a company official has said. The company disclosed in April 2012 that it will start supplying electricity to Hesco.
The company also plans to supply an equal amount of electricity to Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) by mid-July this year. The company will sell 15-20MW of electricity to Pesco which could help mitigate the power crisis in Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan.
The sale of electricity is a profitable venture for Lucky Cement as it explores a profitable source of earnings without major investment.
Lucky Cement’s power generation plants have a capacity of producing around 175MW of electricity which are in excess of its commercial operation needs.
