Irving Materials buys Rock Industries quarries

Jul, 06 2012

(Indiana)  --  Irving Materials, Inc. (IMI) purchased assets of Rock Industries from the Smith family of Peru, Ind., including the Peru and Plymouth aggregate quarries. According to IMI, it now has 18 aggregate mining operations across Indiana.

Rock Industries, a family-owned business, has operated in Plymouth and Peru, Ind., since 1977 and produces more than 500,000 tons of stone, sand, and gravel annually.

In an IMI press release, Steve Crane, vice president of IMI Aggregate, said that he is excited to work with the Peru and Plymouth staff. “These are great people,” he said. “We are welcoming them into the IMI family with open arms.”

Terry B. Smith, grandson of the Rock Industries founder, will manage the two locations. Crane says his first order of business will be to increase production at the facilities and to expand sales throughout the area.  The two quarries currently employ 20 full time staff members. With increased productivity and expanded sales, IMI says it hopes to enlarge its workforce at the two facilities in 2013.
