Cement truck flips over

Oct, 17 2013

CLARKDALE -- A cement truck went up on the curb and rolled on its side Monday in a Clarkdale roundabout. The accident occurred just after two p.m. Monday, blocking both lanes of SR 89A.

The truck driver was able to extricate himself and was conscious but taken to Verde Valley Medical Center for evaluation. He was later released.

All traffic was diverted onto Broadway as a detour around the accident for more than four hours while the accident was cleared.

It's not the first cement truck accident in the Clarkdale roundabouts, but it is the first such accident at the Lisa Street loop. Both earlier accidents occurred at Avenida Centerville roundabout.

Clarkdale Police did not identify the trucking company, but the vehicle is owned by a company based in Phoenix and is not affiliated with CTI in Clarkdale.

Police Sgt. Troy Smith says there was only a single other witness to the accident and the cause has not been finally determined.
