Objective:
Perform and coordinate the quality control functions at the Edmonton Pipe Division including all processes required to plan and execute the work as well as to oversee/audit the quality of manufactured Concrete Drainage Products. The incumbent is responsible for all activities relating to development and maintenance of the concrete pipe quality control program including adherence to all PPP requirements as administered by the OCPA (Ontario Concrete Pipe Association), reduce quality incidents and to capitalize on emerging and existing technologies

Responsibilities:
General

Ensure compliance to all PPP standards as administered OCPA

Oversee all aspects of the Quality Control Program
-
Maintain cleanliness of lab and provide easy access to all records, data and specifications

Gather, analyze and report on product test data
-
Submit weekly reports of tasks completed to General Manager and Operations Manager
-
Submit weekly records of Go-No-Go Gauging inspections to Operations Manager
-
Inspect pipe products daily after Go-No-Go Gauging and patching and prior to yarding
-
Oversee R&D Projects
-
Support product development initiatives

Maintain current drawings of all products produced in plant. Inform appropriate personnel of changes to drawings if measurements of pallets and headers are dissimilar from drawings

Interact with external customers and investigate complaints of non-conforming product

Maintain customer relations at project job sites

Direct the Quality Control Technician team members
-
Quality interface and network with other pipe manufacturers, Lafarge companies and outside organization.

Enforce established policies and regulations related to Quality Control

Review mill certificates from supplier(s) once per month (PPP 6.4)

Review steel mill certificates once per month or per shipment (PPP 6.5)

Review gasket certificates once per month or per shipment (PPP 6.6)

Review joint material certificates once per month or per shipment (PPP 6.7)

Review admixture certificates once per month or per shipment (PPP 6.8)

Arrange and review aggregate testing and verification for compliance to OPSS 1001, 1002 (see attached sheet)

Review batching processes (PPP 7.1)
Product

Control and record curing temperatures (PPP 8.4)

Set Go-No-Go gauges (PPP 11.2.4) and review and record all pipe gauging inspections (PPP 9.2)

Complete dimensional checks on circular pipe and maintenance holes annually (PPP 9.2), which include the tests listed in CSA A257.2 – 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, CSA A257.4 – 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4, and CSA A257.4 – 5.3.2

Complete Three Edge Testing for one (1) in 400 pieces of pipe or two years for each size and class (PPP 9.3)

Complete Absorption Tests for each mix design on each machine every six months (PPP 9.4)

HYDROSTATIC TESTING

Complete Hydrostatic Tests for each size and class as per the frequency stated in PPP Appendix A (PPP 9.5)

Complete Hydrostatic Tests for maintenance holes every month or when produced (PPP 9.8)

Complete Step Pull Out Tests for maintenance holes every month or when produced (PPP 9.8)

Arrange for batching scales to be calibrated annually (PPP 11.2.1)

Check pallets and headers annually or before production if longer than one year, (including Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg equipment) to appropriate tolerances for 1200mm or less, by labeling and recording measurements (PPP 11.2.2, 11.2.3)

Ensure frequency or test equipment is calibrated (PPP Table 11.1)

Test concrete for compressive strength and densities on each mix used once per week

Complete necessary project specific testing

Ensure proper batching processes are being followed
Qualification Profile:
Education
-
Civil Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) or Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with ability to register with APEGGA
Attributes

Excellent understanding of use and specifications of concrete and aggregates

Excellent understanding of mix designs, concrete troubleshooting, pipe plant operations and specifications

Complete ACI Concrete Field Testing certification
-
Complete PPP Certification as administered by the OCPA

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, computer skills, organization skills and problem solving skills are required

Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment

A self starter with little supervision required to complete tasks
