Position Summary:

The Quarry Coordinator’s primary objectives are to provide leadership, direction and a safe work environment to the quarry personnel. The Quarry Coordinator is responsible for safely producing the quality and quantity of raw materials for the production of cementitious products at the lowest possible cost.

 Provide a safe work environment and encourage a safety conscience work ethic.

  • Direct and coordinate all activities of the quarry department. 
  • Analyze quarry operations and set plans for improvement.  Areas include general site and equipment operation safety, overburden removal, drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, crushing, water management, and limestone quality.
  • Review deviations from set targets with the Process and Quality departments, and develop corrective actions.
  • Oversee the contractors who conduct the mining activities at the quarry operations and ensure that mining operations are conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Manage the mining plans in conjunction with CTS to provide the plant with quality limestone for the manufacturing process while optimizing the use of the limestone reserves for both the short and long term.
  • Supervise the crushing operation and provide adequate limestone inventories.
  • Maintain working relationship with all departments to see that raw material needs are met.
  • Participate in the capital and operating budget processes to help plant meet goals and objectives.
  • Document production statistics and produce reports as required.
  • Provide leadership for direct reports and support teammates in the performance of their responsibilities.
  • Develop plans to work towards improved performance and lower operating costs.
  • Participate on plant safety committees.
  • Prepare and coordinate mobile equipment operation and replacement plans.
  • Communicate with community as required.
  • Approve and authorize quarry department expenditures.
  • Works with the Environmental Manager to ensure compliance in Quarry Management in relationship to the environment.

 

Educational Background:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering or Geology or equivalent.

 

Experience:

 

  • Five years of experience in a mine or quarry operation.
  • Previous experience in cement plant preferred.
  • Ability to plan ahead in order to maintain raw materials availability
  • Commitment to safety and willing to set an example for coworkers.
  • Willing to participate and contribute in a team environment.
  • Support team members in accomplishing plant objectives.
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Able to understand and administer bargaining unit contract rules.
  • Coordinate with multiple contractors at same time.
  • Knowledge of surveying.
  • Mine modeling program utilization.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office products, Lotus Notes, AutoCad)
  • Projects – managing, documenting, reporting and presentations.
  • Stay current with best practices and equipment in mining and crushing industry.
