Position Summary:
The Process and Energy Coordinator’s primary responsibilities are to measure and suggest alternatives and enhancements to the processes and systems, to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, especially where it relates to energy. This is achieved by supporting, communicating and coordinating the plants needs regarding process engineering and ensure production of a quality product with the most effective use of energy. Furthermore, the position is responsible for reporting to BC Hydro as required, regarding improvement plans and successes related to decreasing energy consumption.
Key Responsibilities Results/Accountabilities

Take an active leadership role in the plant safety program

Be a “go-to” person for all process related issues.

Provide to the plant studies related to the equipment and/or processes that will have an impact on both quality and production.

Responsible for secondary kiln work and audits
-
Lead alternate fuel testing and subsequent implementation
-
Responsible for monitoring mills and providing improvement recomendations
-
Assist in troubleshooting environmental issues, addressing specific issues.
-
Involvement in development studies; either at preparation stage and/or at the implementation stage, ensuring process issues are addressed.

Assist production personnel in troubleshooting and solving of operation problems, and work closely with the systems group in the development or modifications of control schemes.

Develop training and/or information for the operations group with regard to process or modification to process equipment.

Provide input for cost budgeting and forecasting and control of expenditures.

Participate in the development of periodic forecasts of manufacturing efficiencies, costs and profits (budgets, weekly and daily production runs) and for corporation technical plans, quality standards, and optimum production practices.

Develop product and manufacturing improvement proposals, presenting cost justifications for these and other capital improvements to the Plant Manager, as well as, to insure compliance with Lafarge Manufacturing Doctrines as well as 3-Year Technical, Plant Action, Automation, Capital Budget Plans and etc.

Maintains an awareness of technical developments (new products, customer needs), and ensures that appropriate changes are implemented.

Other projects as assigned: raw mix uniformity, Capex, uncrushed red shale etc.

Coordination and implementation of alternative fuel/raw material (including studies of cost/benefits and technical feasibility)

Striving for continuous improvement of equipment performance, reliability, efficiency and effectiveness

Identify production bottlenecks and prepare technical solutions including cost/benefits to overcome them

Creation, Implementation and updating the Plant’s Power plan

The execution of the process fieldwork or projects in compliance with schedule, specification, and budgets without disturbing equipment and quality.

The control of the efficiency of the process and process equipment.

The awareness of the new process equipment, techniques, or development and subsequent implementation of tests, new methods, and measurements.

The Training of the operation group on process changes and process equipment modifications.
-
Ability to present ideas and reports clearly, both written and verbal, as well as being well organized in order to manage both time and equipment.

Completion of all reports for BC Hydro as required, accurately and on-time.

Relationships with Others’ Jobs:

In conjunction with the Production Manager, Electrical and Systems Supervisor, Environmental Coordinator, Quality Manager and Maintenance Manager, develop and implement optimization plans and proposals and proposals regarding process improvement and reduction of energy usage.

Qualification Profile:
Education and Work Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field; Master’s degree is preferred.
-
3+ years’ cement manufacturing experience with significant exposure to production, process engineering and process control.

Multi-plant experience preferred
-
Previous supervisory experience
-
Three to four years experience in cement in a production or process engineer or supervisory chemist, or a minimum of five years experiences as a Quality Control Manager or equivalent position in a heavy industry with continuous process such as steel, lime, glass, etc.
Knowledge and Skills:
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills, both technical and non-technical: must be able to effectively communicate, coordinate, interface, and correspond with customers and plant staff

Knowledge of cross-belt analyzers and laboratory automation beneficial.

Statistical analysis skills

Good computer skills,.

Strong understanding of energy and knowledge related to reducing energy costs
