Description

Summary
The Quality Control Technician (QCT) performs three laboratory functions: chemical laboratory, physical testing laboratory, and shift control.  In each of these functions the QCT is responsible for reliable and accurate testing of plant raw materials, plant feedstreams and eleven types of finished product.  The QCT also maintains laboratory equipment in good working condition.  This position works in conjunction with Production and Sales personnel to provide a customer driven product from the Whitehall facility.  

Specific responsibilities and expectations include:

  • Performing all tasks in a safe and efficient manner.  Observes safety regulations and established operational procedures at all times.  Promotes safety practices and efforts throughout the plant.
  • Calibration, standardization and operation of all laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Changing raw mix designs to meet target settings.
  • Knowledge of silo and bin materials, including complete familiarity with daily capacities of each silo or storage bin and when it will fill or empty.
  • Understanding the flow of the various materials throughout the plant.
  • Knowledge of what products are being made in the kilns and finish mills.
  • Performing accurate analysis of various materials and reporting said results , and making necessary adjustments when indicated by results of said analysis.
  • Communications with the Production Department on any changes that have to be made.
  • Complete working knowledge of all equipment in laboratory
  • Knowledgeable in ASTM testing procedures and specifications for Portland cement.
  • Able to perform testing procedures according to ASTM-C114-95 Standard Test Methods for Chemical Analysis of Hydraulic Cement along with the ASTM testing procedures of raw mix.
  • Able to perform testing procedures which make up ASTM C-150 Standard Specification for Portland Cements, ASTM C91 Standard Specifications for Masonry Cement, ASTM C595 Standard Specification for     Blended Cements, and ASTM C270 Standard Specification for Mortar for Unit Masonry.
  • Able to perform testing procedures according to Lafarge Quality Technical Standards
  • Able to perform control charting analysis of equipment checks
  • Meeting deadlines for special analysis.
  • Proficiency in microscopic analysis of clinker.
  • Reporting out of target results immediately to the laboratory management.
  • Responsible to work safely and productively and to keep their appropriate areas clean.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Profile

  • High school graduate, computer literate.
  • Three to five years of cement manufacturing experience or college degree in a technical field.
  • Very good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Physically able to do some heavy lifting as well as extended walking throughout facility that includes stairs, ladders, uneven surfaces, and exposure to weather.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, team player with above average reasoning and problem solving skills.
  • Commitment to the highest standards of safe work habits.
