Terminal Operator Assistant-    Westlake Terminal

Position Summary

The TOA shares responsibility for the administration of the safety program, supervision of terminal personnel, terminal operating, and reporting functions.  In this role, the TOA will further develop knowledge of all safety, mechanical, financial, operational and customer service aspects of terminal management.

Responsibilities:

• Promote and implement safe working practices.  Ensure that monthly safety meetings are held and all safety program rules and terminal policies are followed.
• Ensure that all work and operations are performed in an environmentally sound manner and in compliance with current operating permits and regulatory requirements.
• Monitor and/or assist with the receiving and shipping of material in to provide optimum customer service and efficiency.
• Implement the daily operating schedule to optimize utilization of personnel and equipment.  Assist in maintaining, monitoring, and documenting product inventories.
• Shared responsibility for preventive and predictive maintenance of equipment according to Lafarge best practices and standards.
• Play an active role in the development of equipment checklists and work to continuously improve operating procedures.

Qualifications

Education:   Bachelors or Associates degree in a related discipline is required.  However, applicants with extensive related experience that meet all other criteria may also be considered.

Background & Skills: 

—         2 to 5 years of experience in terminal or similar operations

—         Strong demonstrated commitment to safety and safety program experience

—         Working knowledge of a distribution facility, barge unloading and truck loading functions

—         Working knowledge of the PeopleSoft System used in Lafarge terminals

—         A strong mechanical aptitude would be an asset. 

—         Ability to accurately and efficiently perform administrative functions

—         Strong oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills

—         Demonstrated leadership capability

—         Competence with computer applications such as WORD and EXCEL
