Position Summary:
The Mine Supervisor will perform any mine function as required, and will lead all daily functions of the mine, to meet production and quality requirements in an environmentally sound, safe, and efficient manner. Two Mine Supervisors will have specific responsibilities as outlined in the Specific Accountabilities section below.
Specific Accountabilities:

Schedule and supervise hourly mining personnel and coordinate with the other crew Supervisor to perform all mining activities to meet daily production requirements safely and efficiently.

Work closely with the Mine Engineer and Mine Manager to forecast monthly costs and to operate within forecasted costs.

Ensure that the required MSHA and company inspections and drills are properly conducted and the proper documentation is maintained. These include: Pre-shift inspections on mobile equipment, work place examinations, post blast inspections, Hot Work permits, safe work permits, gas checks, mine evacuation drills, weighing self rescuers and daily production logs.

Ensure that mine ventilation systems properly control levels of gases, dust, and diesel particulate in the mine atmosphere. Work with Mine Engineer to implement changes in ventilation controls as required.

Conduct and document safety meetings with Union personnel as required by MSHA and company policies.

Inspect and report any maintenance requirements and coordinate repairs with the Maintenance Coordinator.

Ensure that routine housekeeping and daily maintenance is performed on ventilation systems, sumps, production line equipment and roadways.

Conduct and properly document job specific cross training as needed to reach an optimal level of competency and proficiency throughout the workforce.

Work closely with the Mine Engineer to ensure proper mining sequence and that headings are driven on line and grade.

Work closely with the Maintenance Coordinator to facilitate repairs and cleanup efforts during down time and maintenance days.

Communicate closely with the Mine Manager to address any problems or concerns before they affect the safety and efficiency of the operation.

Actively participate in weekly planning meetings and be prepared to discuss plans for the following weeks work schedule and outstanding projects.

Lead mine Continuous Improvement Group and participate in mine Technical Improvement Group.

Actively participate on committees to which you are assigned.

Support or actively participate in the mine rescue program.

Keep accurate inventories of and order mining supplies as needed to accomplish the mine plan.
Educational Background:
Minimum of an Associates Degree or equivalent mining experience. MSHA instructor certification a plus.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years underground mine experience with at least 3 years experience in a supervisory capacity preferably in mechanized large room and pillar mining. Minimum 2 years mine rescue training experience. Must have good communication skills, computer literacy, and problem solving abilities. Must have the ability to develop and deliver training programs and interpret technical documentation including mining maps, plans, and technical manuals.
