Aggregate transport solution to railcar shortages

Double Crown Resources has developed an aggregate material transport system to convert intermodal flatbed rail cars, which in plentiful supply but generally not useful for aggregate cargo, into 100 ton, sealed aggregate commodity carriers.

The Double Crown TransLock matches existing container dimensions, weight restrictions, pickup points, delivery systems and conveyance methods.

What makes Double Crown’s product unique is that it is built to maximize the macro logistics methods of transport, enhancing the intermodal logistic business model by connecting the containers once they reach their point of destination.

A vertical interlock allows the material in the two upper containers to gravity feed into the lower containers. Once the vertical connections have been made, the horizontal interlock between the two lower containers connects the Venturi/pneumatic conveyance system together. Thus, one connection can be made and the total cargo can be transferred into hoppers and/or silos and/or mixers and/or conveyors.

A standard rail car can transport a maximum of 100 tons of aggregate material. By connecting four TransLock containers Double Crown’s system is able to duplicate that same quantity of material to be transferred at close to or as close to the current transfer rate.

Unlike a covered rail car, TransLock containers can be off-loaded and used as silos and/or storage to be transferred at a time of choice. Also unlike a covered rail car, TransLock containers can be utilized for a multitude of different products.

The current tremendous increase in rail shipments of materials to and from shale oilfields has pushed the rail industry to its capacity limits, so much so that other rail shipments, especially in agriculture, are facing long delays and unavailability of sufficient carrier cars.
