Algeria: Algerian-South African cement plant to start

Construction of a cement plant in Algeria, by an Algerian and a South African company, with a capacity of 2.2 million tons per year, will be launched “soon”, says Abdelkrim Mansouri, director general, National Development Agency.

“All administrative procedures have now been finalized and the initiators of this project have started the work of constructing the plant shortly,” Mansouri said.

This project is the result of a partnership between Hodna Algerian Cement Company and South African Pretoria Portland Cement.

Some 80% of the investment project cost will be financed by the Algerian banks, while the 20% remaining are assumed by the two partners.

Signed in February 2014, the partnership agreement also entrusts the South African party with the management.

Based in Meghra (M’sila), this cement plant which exploitation is planned for 2017.
