Cementos Argos has invested more than $78 million to manufacture and distribute green cement at its Rio Claro plant in Colombia.

Cementos says producing the cement reduces carbon dioxide by 38% and power consumption by 30% compared to the industry standard for portland cement.

Tomás Restrepo, vice president of the Regional Colombia at Cementos, says: “This new technological platform allows us to dream of alternative businesses and not only ratifies our commitment to sustainability, but also positions us at the spearhead of innovation in the industry, because we are modifying the way cement is traditionally produced."

The investment in green cement has also generated more than 600 jobs, the company adds.
