Drugs and alcohol not a factor in fatal concrete truck, big-rig crash

(California) — Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been a factor in a fatal crash that killed a concrete truck driver Friday morning, according to Fremont police.

The concrete truck driver, a 39-year-old man whose identity has not yet been released by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office, was traveling north on the 47100 block of Kato Road around 8:30 a.m. when he collided with a southbound flatbed big rig hauling a boom crane, according to police.

Officers arriving on the scene found the concrete truck driver unresponsive, suffering from a major head injury. He was declared dead at the scene by fire personnel.

The big rig driver, a 51-year-old man, was admitted to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation but drugs and alcohol do not seem to have been a factor, according to police.
