Concerns about the effectiveness of waterproofing concrete using crystalline waterproofing materials technology has prompted the Dubai government to limit their use for above ground applications.
Below ground, conventional tanking membranes must be used. A Dubai Municipality Circular states that waterproofing works using Crystalline Waterproofing Materials technology is only allowed at the following structural elements:
- All super structure elements above grade level and at basement top slabs
- All Slabs, Walls, Columns & Beams that are (Precast Concrete).
“The above water proofing system is allowed for below grade concrete and retaining walls
only with the use of a Dubai Municipality approved waterproofing system, such as a water proofing membrane or rubberized bitumen.”
“Works must occurs under the supervision and responsibility of the consultant, main contractor and supplier to ensure quality control and the efficiency of the waterproofing system.”
Crystallization inhibitors are used widely to prevent or minimize unwanted crystallization in industrial processes, as in commercial boilers and water treatment plants. The basic concepts of crystallization inhibition were originally developed in the 1950s . Numerous experimental studies have subsequently led to the understanding of the mechanisms involved in the crystallization inhibition processes.
The two major effects of inhibitors are the prevention or reduction of undesired precipitation and modification of precipitate morphologies.
