Fire hits California asphalt plant

Damages are extensive in the wake of a fire Monday at the Yeager Skanska asphalt plant in Fargo Canyon, southern California.

The blaze was reported at 9:44am  a Cal Fire Riverside spokeswoman April Newman said.

An oil drum initially caught fire. When the flames were contained 3-hours later, four buildings had been destroyed and four more damaged.

Losses also included a 6,000 gallon tanker semi-truck, a pick-up truck carrying acetylene and oxygen tanks, a storage container for rubber pallets, and three containers of diesel fuel and heating oil.

The chemicals were used in the production of asphalt for roads.

Calfire estimated losses at $400,000. There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
