Fire shuts down Lafarge Alpena cement plant

A conveyor belt fire shut Lafarge’s cement works in Alpena, Michigan on Friday.

Firefighters from the Alpena Fire department were called to a fire at a cement plant in Alpena Friday morning.

Firefighters attended the blaze at the cement plant on Friday morning. The fire reached about 130 ft. in the air starting in the middle of the conveyer belt.

The conveyer, used to take material rocks from the quarry is now unusable. The plant is temporarily shut down until a replacement conveyor is installed.
