First International Conference on Stone Matrix Asphalt confirmed

January 31, 2018

The National Asphalt Pavement Association, the Transportation Research Board of National Academics and the Federal Highway Administration will host the first International Conference on Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) from 5 – 7 November 2018 in Atlanta Georgia.  The conference is intended to present advancements made in SMA mixtures and pavements over the past 25 years.

SMA was developed in Germany during the 1960s to provide heavily trafficked roads with a durable, rut-resistant wearing course using a gap-graded aggregate structure and a modified asphalt binder at elevated asphalt contents. The technology has evolved since its introduction in the U.S. which may make it beneficial to wider applications.
