Furukawa USA appoints Manabu 'Michael' Sato president

May 23, 2019

Furukawa Rock Drill USA has chosen Manabu 'Michael' Sato as president following the retirement of Jeff Crane, who has worked for the company for 45 years.

Sato was most recently managing director for Furukawa India. He has also served as executive vice president for Furukawa USA from 2009 to 2015.

Crane will remain a senior advisor to Furukawa for the foreseeable future, reporting directly to Sato.

He began his career with the company in 1974, working as a draftsman in the bonnot engineering division of Gougler Industries. He worked in several positions over the years, including salesman, national sales manager and general manager. Gougler was sold to Japanese-owned Furukawa in 1990, and in 2005, Crane was promoted to general manager of the Kent Division, which manufactured demolition tools. He then became president and chief executive officer.
