GCC to utilise solar and wind power at Odessa cement plant

September 17, 2019

Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua, (GCC) has signed an agreement with an unnamed energy supplier to supply solar and wind power to its cement plant in Odessa, Texas.

GCC says the deal will reduce approximately 45,000 metric tonnes in carbon dioxide annually.

The ten-year fixed-price agreement takes effect beginning July 2022 and represents a ~22% decrease from the current electricity price for the Odessa plant, the company adds.

The move is part of GCC's commitment to using clean energy at its US and Mexico operations, reducing overall energy costs while mitigating related price fluctuation.
