Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 2.5 million tons in November, a decrease of 16.8 % compared to a year ago, according to the Lake Carriers’ Association.
November’s loadings were also 15.1% below the month’s five-year average. Loadings from US quarries totaled 2.1 million tons, a decrease of 16.2% compared to a year ago, while shipments from Canadian quarries totaled 406,000 tons, a decrease of 19.3%, the association said.
Year-to-date the Lakes limestone trade stands at 25.3m tons, a decrease of 8.3% compared to a year ago. Loadings out of Michigan and Ohio quarries total 20.5m tons, a decrease of 12.1%.
Shipments from Ontario quarries total 4.8m tons, an increase of 12.9%.
