James (Jim) Maxwell Shilstone, Sr. was born on August 31, 1923 in New Orleans, LA. He was a proud graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, class of 1945. He served in WWII and Korea before marrying Grady Gene Riggan in 1954. They celebrated 40 years of marriage before her death in 1994. Jim was blessed with a second loving marriage to Patricia Brooks Rost, who has been his wife for 13 years.
Jim’s other love was his career, and he spent 60 years dedicating his life to making architectural concrete both attractive and durable and improving the quality of concrete mixtures. His work in seen in many famous structures around the world and has resulted in numerous awards, including Honorary Member of the American Concrete Institute and Lifetime Honorary Member of the American Concrete Pavement Association.
He is survived by: his wife, Patricia Brooks Shilstone; his son and business partner for 35 years, James Maxwell Shilstone, Jr. and his wife, Jeanne; daughter, Riggan Shilstone and her husband, William Jackson; grandchildren Sarah Lyn Shilstone and Samantha Jane Shilstone; stepchildren, Wendy Bleecker and her husband, John; Randy Rost and his wife, Christy; and Mark Rost and his wife Susan; step-grandchildren, Matthew Aaron Jackson and his wife, Jeanette; Erica Lin Jackson; Michael Tibbets and his wife, Shae; Kathryn Brensinger and her husband, Patrick; Timothy Rost, Bob Rost, and Jennifer Rost; and three step-great-grandchildren.
