Italcementi CEO probed over Calcestruzzi mafia links

(MILAN, ITALY)  —  Italcementi SpA chief executive Carlo Pesenti is being investigated in the probe over alleged links between the group’s concrete unit Calcestruzzi SpA and the Sicilian mafia, Corriere della Sera said on Saturday, citing lawyers.

According to the paper, Italcementi’s lawyer Alberto Alessandri said he was surprised by news of Pesenti’s involvement ‘in a probe that relates to isolated illegal acts committed by some former employees of Calcestruzzi’.

‘Pesenti never held direct roles in Calcestruzzi,’ Alessandri added.

Pesenti’s lawyer Franco Coppi said Pesenti will demonstrate he has always acted correctly but is worried the probe could damage the company’s reputation.
