Kansas quarry worker killed when pile slippage buries him

June 26, 2020

A worker has been killed at a quarry in Kansas. He has been named as Frank Rockers Jr of Emporia.

The Osage County Sheriff's Office says the accident was reported just before 14.30 on Friday June 19 2020 at the Harshman Construction rock quarry, 32306 S. California Road, near Melvern.

Sheriff Laurie Dunn said Rockers was taking samples at the base of a large chat pile when it gave way, burying him.

Two fellow workers witnessed the accident, and immediately began working to get him out.

Fire units also arrived quickly but, when the 68-year-old worker was eventually removed, he was pronounced dead, said the Sheriff.
