Harringtonnamed CEO; Kitzmiller retires
(Irving, Texas) — Lehigh Hanson, Inc. today announced Daniel M. Harrington (left) will succeed James K. Kitzmiller (right) as Chief Executive Officer effective Jan. 1, 2010. With this change, Kitzmiller will retire after more than 39 years of service with the Company.
Kitzmiller’s history with the Company began with Gifford Hill Concrete Pipe in 1971. During his career, he has held a variety of executive positions, culminating with his appointment as President and Chief Executive Officer of Lehigh Hanson, Inc. following HeidelbergCement’s purchase of Hanson, plc in 2007.
“I’m pleased with the Company’s accomplishments during the past few years and the integration of the HeidelbergCement businesses in North America,” said Kitzmiller. “Dan Harrington has the talent and the experience to continue the progress the Company has made and successfully lead Lehigh Hanson going forward.”
A recognized leader in the industry with more than 35 years experience, Harrington began his career in 1974 as a management intern and rose to the position of Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Scancem Industries, Northeast – U.S. He was appointed President of Lehigh East in 1999 and most recently served as Lehigh Hanson’s Chief Operating Officer and President of its South Region. Harrington graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a B.A. in Science and received an MBA from Farleigh-Dickinson University. He also earned an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Executive Management from Claremont Graduate University.
