Martin Engineering to host free webinar on conveyor safety

November 19, 2018

Martin Engineering will host a free webinar today which includes five strategies to help keep workers safe around belt conveyors. The session will discuss the likelihood and cost of an accident as well as specific actions that a company can take to reduce the possibility of an accident.

The company will also share case studies and real-life examples of conveyor injuries and discuss how they could have been avoided.

The main hazards related to belt conveyors include moving components that can cause damage by entrapment in nip points, abrasion and burns, as well as pinching zones that can cause damage by shearing and crushing.

According to Martin Engineering, conveyors are a leading cause of industrial accidents which include serious injuries and fatalities due to the the size of their material cargos, the speed of their operation, and the amount of energy they consume and contain.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to properly block out a belt against unexpected motion, even when it is locked out.
  • Discuss conveyor guarding (MSHA regulations and best practices shared from other countries).
  • Learn how to effectively train employees to work safely around conveyors.
  • Identify and mitigate the biggest culprit in conveyor accidents.
