Meramec Aggregates seeks mining permit

Meramec Aggregates has requesting a conditional use permit from the Franklin County Planning and Zoning Commission for mining, production and sale of sand and gravel on a 60-acre site near St Clair, Missouri, reports the Missourian.

This is the fourth time since April 2014 that Meramec Aggregates has been before the commission. This time, however, it is for a different site.

In April 2014 the company sought a permit for property just north of North Virginia Mines Road near St. Clair. That permit was denied by the commission.

Late that year, in November, Meramec Aggregates provided a more thorough application for a peremit for the same site. With more information, the plan board approved the permit. The permit’s standing was upheld in April 2015 by the Board of Zoning Adjustment.

At the March planning and zoning meeting, Meramec Aggregates received a permit allowing mining at 1200 Ely Road, about a half mile north of River Bend Road near St. Clair.
