Metso launches predictive maintenance solution for mining industry

November 14, 2018

Metso says its predictive maintenance solution for mining equipment helps to maximise uptime and performance comminution circuits. The platform, built on Rockwell Automation’s FactoryTalk Cloud, is being introduced at Automation Fair in Philadelphia.

The solution serves as an extension of the Metso Metrics offering, an offering which provides mining customers with visibility and insights into their equipment and processes with analytics, condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. Metso also provides users with support.

Jani Puroranta, chief digital officer, Metso, says optimisation of existing assets and processes is crucial to driving productivity at mine sites.

“This is where digitalisation coupled with expert support really comes into play - connecting the right data with the right people. With innovative digital tools like Metso Metrics, minerals processing plants can shift from reactive-mode to being proactive and focused on continuous improvement,” Puroranta adds.

The platform, powered by Microsoft Azure, collects data from hundreds of sensors within Metso equipment all used to assess process performance as well as predict component wear and failure, the company adds.

Metso’s performance teams will analyse the data with the support of advanced machine learning algorithms to help customers optimise equipment operations and processes.

Blake Moret, chairman and CEO, Rockwell Automation, says: "This connected mine solution allows mining companies to derive measurable business value from their operations, allowing for better collaboration and increased productivity."
