Milestone Materials plans Rochester quarry expansion

Milestone Minerals plans to expand its sand and gravel quarry on its 140 acres of land near Rochester, Minnesota.

The quarry operator has applied for a zoning change. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources concluded last April that an Environmental Impact Statement is not required because the project does not have the potential for significant environmental effects.

The planning commission recommended approval of the rezone on a 3-2 vote and sent it to the Cascade Town Board, which will hold a public hearing at its November 3 meeting.

Some township residents are not  happy about the proposed expansion and plan to oppose iton environmental grounds.
