Mulzer Crushed Stone proposes fleeting areas along Ohio River

October 29, 2018

Mulzer Crushed Stone has applied to the Louisville Engineer District to obtain permits to expand two adjacent fleeting areas on the right descending bank of the Ohio River.

A report by the Waterways Journal says one proposal would establish four fleeting spaces for towboats and/or switch boats in the middle yard fleeting area at its site Mile 746.6 near Rockport. This would require the fleeting area to expand two barge widths toward the river. The company confirmed there would be no discharge of dredged or fill materials and no red-flag barges.

The second permit would add five 6-foot diameter cells to the company’s site at Mile 746 and expand the existing 20-foot diameter cell to 30 feet. Also, this initiative is expected to add five barge fleeting spaces to the current 25 spaces and provide a new fleeting area which is five barges long by six barges wide.
