NIOSH to recognise aggregates operations for safety innovations

July 2, 2018

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) will recognise aggregates companies that focus on safety innovations. The National, Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) says operations using technology to improve their equipment, programmes and systems can now apply for the Safety and Health Technology Innovations Awards.

“Applicants can apply by highlighting the problem they solved with technology, how the tech functions and any modifications the operation made to customize the equipment to solve a specific issue," NSSGA adds.

Granite Mountain Quarries and Pine Bluff Sand & Gravel received the award the stone, sand and gravel sector for its holistic wellness programme in 2017. The initiative focused on improving worker and spouse health and fitness.

In 2014, Luck Companies took the award for modifying a Caterpillar 988G loader which allowed the operator to run the machine remotely or from the cab.
