Vulcan Materials Company, Gold Hill Quarry received a preservation award from the Historic Gold Hill & Mines Foundation at their annual meeting in Gold Hill. reports the Salisbury Post.
The recognition was in appreciation of the many years of support Vulcan has given to the foundation for its preservation projects in the Historic Gold Hill Village, North Carolina. Vulcan provides crushed stone for park improvements and walking trail development and the company annually contributes to the foundation for capital and maintenance preservation projects.
Over the years, Vulcan has been a supporter of significant projects at the park including the enclosure of the Russell-Rufty Shelter and a covered outdoor amphitheater.
Denise Hallett, government and business relations manager for Vulcan in North Carolina. said, “It is our company’s honor to support the communities in which we operate and we are proud to support the Historic Gold Hill & Mines Foundation with their efforts to educate and preserve the rich gold mining history in Gold Hill.”
Jay Culp, Historic Gold Hill & Mines Foundation board president said, “We are very grateful for Vulcan’s active partnership and support of our efforts over the years and we look forward to their involvement with us in the future.” Three individuals also received a preservation award certificate.
Guy Medlin, retired former Gold Hill Quarry plant manager from Vulcan and longtime member of the foundation’s board of directors, received a preservation award certificate for his many years of service and dedication to the board and project work at the park.
Hallett received a certificate for her role in guiding the company’s contributions and donations supporting the foundation since its beginning in 1993.
Foundation supporter Frankie Barringer also received a preservation award certificate for his talents and service to park preservation efforts.
Vivian Hopkins of the Historic Gold Hill Mines & Foundation said, “These individuals gave countless hours of their time and talent as well as valued financial resources to help make the Gold Hill park the historic treasure it is today and we are so appreciative of their service to us."
