Russell Standard, a Pittsburgh-based company that makes asphalt emulsions is expanding into the Reading area.
Russell Standard is leasing an asphalt emulsion plant in Muhlenberg Township at 3847 Pottsville Pike.
Russell Standard took over the plant on July 1. “It fills our footprint across the state,” said Matt Johnson, president of Russell Standard.
“We view the leasing of this site as an investment in the Reading community and look forward to our new partnership,” he said.
The company also has asphalt plants in Chambersburg and Mercer in Pennsylvania, in addition to a site in Baltimore, Johnson said.
The company has clients in Pennsylvania and into New Jersey and New York. “There are not many of these plants around,” Johnson said. “We are always looking for areas to grow.”
The Muhlenberg Township plant supplies asphalt-emulsified products for pavement preservation and road repair.
Blueknight Energy Partners, based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, owns the site.
Ergon Asphalt & Emulsions Inc. leased the facility before and vacated the site on July 1.
