Qatar infrastructure spending could benefit aggregates producers

Aggregates producers could be about to see their materials in high demand in Qatar after reports in the Gulf Times that rulers are preparing to spend $71.67bn (QAR 261 billion) in infrastructure development.

The spend is on water, electricity, transport and sewage networks as well as road expansion projects.

Of the total QAR 261 billion new infrastructure budget, QAR 87 billion will be spent on transport sector development, including on port infrastructure and new rail projects. Another QAR 30 billion will go towards electricity and water. QAR 54 billion will go towards other infrastructure.

According to Ali Sherif Al Emadi, finance minister of Qatar, QAR 24 billion has been allocated for development of sports infrastructure, including the building of new stadiums for FIFA World Cup in 2022.
