Rogers Group withdraws Indiana quarry proposal

Rogers Group on Wednesday withdrew its proposal for a controversial quarry near Americus, Indiana.

Tippecanoe County Commissioner Tom Murtaugh said: this essentially ends Rogers Group’s request for the quarry near Americus.

“This actually pulls the entire application,” Murtaugh said. “If they would want to do it, they would have to start all over and start a brand new petition.”

While Murtaugh said the cost to refile is not expensive, the cost of sending in all of the necessary documents a second time could be a deterrent.

As to why the group made this decision, Murtaugh said he has “no clue.”

Officials and the attorney for Rogers Group did not immediately respond to calls and email for comment.

Rogers Group’s permit through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources is good until January 2016, at which time the group can petition to renew it through the state.
