Substandard asphalt in New Holland replaced

PennDOT says a paving contractor to remove and replace substandard asphalt it used last month in a four-block section of East Main Street in New Holland, Pennsylvania.

The Montgomery County-based contractor, H&K Group, is on the hook for the cost of the repaving, although it can appeal, PennDOT spokesman Greg Penn said.

PennDOT required the work to be redone after asphalt the contractor used to pave the four-block stretch in early September failed a compaction test, Penny said.

The rest of the seven-mile paving project on Route 23 between New Holland and Hellers Church Road in Upper Leacock Township is not affected.

The project has been underway since March.
