Since January 2016, nearly 100,000 tonnes of sand and gravel have been transported by rail as a result of the project. Each 1,100 tonne trainload removes 38 heavy truck movements from the road system and eliminates a total of 8,040 road miles.

ABP’s short sea ports director, Andrew Harston, said: “Not only have we helped our customer win new business, we have also created a supply chain, which is environmentally sustainable, reduces congestion in Ipswich and has a minimal impact on neighbouring properties.”
