Vulcan quarry on Yucatan Peninsula fully operational

(Mexico) Vulcan Materials Co. announced Tuesday that its quarry on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula is back in full production and that the quarry’s harbor is fully operational. Plant production and shipments had been disrupted by Hurricane Wilma. “Hurricane Wilma was the second direct hit our quarry on the Yucatan Peninsula encountered this season,” said Vulcan’s chairman and CEO, Don James. “In both cases, we incurred little damage to the plant and ship loading facility and were able to resume shipping and production promptly after electricity was restored. Our employees in Mexico performed admirably both in securing the facilities in advance of the hurricanes and bringing them back into production very promptly.” The quarry produces construction aggregates. Birmingham-based Vulcan Materials (NYSE: VMC) also is a major producer of other construction materials.
